We spoke with Clara de Cendra, psychotherapist and clinical director of CAIF, about how suffering and self-esteem are related in people's minds.
Discovering our identity as human beings helps us to respond in a coherent way to what we need and seek. The concepts of self-esteem and suffering are relevant to achieving happiness. Distinguishing between “who am I” and “the image” we create about ourselves helps us to develop optimal mental health.
The successes and failures we have throughout our lives, the sufferings, etc., create a very relevant context in which we have to ask ourselves about the truth of our being. The answer to this question will make us better able to know ourselves better, to love each other better and to be more able to live knowing our wounds and our relationship with them.
